Product Details

Crisp, permanent lettering that cannot fade, peel or wipe off - engraved in-house on 1.6mm two-ply laminate, the industrial standard for control-panel legends, nameplates and machine labels.

Our lasers cut clean through the top ply to reveal a contrasting core beneath, so the text is part of the material rather than printed onto it. It is the modern equivalent of traditional Traffolyte, cut on laser equipment for sharper edges and finer detail than a rotary engraver can hold.

Why engineers specify it

Permanent engraved text

Because the legend is cut through the top layer, there is no ink or surface coating to fade in UV light, dissolve in solvent or peel at the edges.

High-contrast legibility

A dark surface over a light core (or vice versa) gives clear contrast, making switches, isolators and circuits easy to read at a glance.

Colour-coded to your standard

Ten surface and core combinations, including safety red and yellow, plus brushed silver and gold for nameplates and presentation plates.

Cut to fit the panel

Laser cutting allows custom outlines, radiused corners and accurate cut-outs around existing switchgear and indicator lamps.

Colours, shapes and fixings

  • Colour range - black on white, white on black, white on red, blue, green, orange, red and yellow on black, plus premium brushed silver and brushed gold with black text.
  • Cut shape - straight cut for standard labels, circular for dials and valve markers, or a custom shape supplied as a DXF or vector outline.
  • Fixing - supplied plain, with screwholes drilled to your positions, or with 3M 467 adhesive backing for a peel-and-stick fit.

Where these labels are used

  • Control panel legends
  • Switchgear labels
  • Machinery nameplates
  • Distribution board charts
  • Isolator and MCB labelling
  • Asset and inventory tags
  • Safety and warning signs
  • Door and room signage
  • Pipe and valve identification
  • Rating and serial plates

For more detail on each application, see our guides to control panel labels, asset tags and safety signage. Valve tags are cut from this same laminate with ball-chain or hole fixings.

Ordering from a label schedule? You don't need drawn artwork to order. Send your legends as text or a spreadsheet and we will set them out, keep the font sizing consistent across the batch and email a proof before engraving. If your layout is already drawn, upload a PDF, AI, EPS, SVG or DXF - see the artwork guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is laser engraved laminate the same as Traffolyte?
It does the same job. Traffolyte is a brand name for two-ply engraving laminate, and our 1.6mm material is the modern equivalent - cut on laser equipment rather than a rotary engraver, which gives sharper lettering and lets us cut small text and fine detail that a cutter head cannot reach.
What size can the labels be?
Anything up to 1220 × 610mm, in 1mm steps. Enter your exact width and height in the configurator and the price updates as you type. Larger legend plates can be supplied as matching panels.
How do the labels fix to a panel?
Three ways: plain with no fixings, with screwholes drilled to your positions, or supplied with 3M 467 adhesive backing for a peel-and-stick fit. Adhesive is the usual choice for retrofits; screwholes suit vibration-prone machinery.
Can you set out a full label schedule for me?
Yes. Send your legends as a list or spreadsheet and we will lay them out, match the type across the whole set and proof it back to you before engraving. If your layout is already fixed, upload artwork as a PDF, AI, EPS, SVG or DXF instead.
Will the engraving fade or wear off?
No. The lettering is a physical cut through the top ply, exposing the contrasting core beneath, so there is no ink or paint to fade in sunlight, wipe off with solvent or peel away. That is why laminate stays specified for switchgear that has to remain readable for the life of the equipment.
How quickly can you turn labels around?
Standard production is three to five working days. Delivery is chosen at checkout. See our turnaround and lead times page for the full picture.
